Community is at the heart of what we value at Flatiron School.

Our campuses are beginning to open for in-person experiences, but in light of recent COVID-19 updates, there’s never been a more important time to do our part to keep our community safe.

Flatiron Campus Updates in NYC & Denver

New York City and Denver have issued revised guidance on vaccination requirements and masks in schools and private businesses. Effective immediately, schools and private businesses are no longer required to check vaccination statuses, nor require that students or patrons be vaccinated in order to enter their spaces. Additionally, mask-wearing is no longer required.

In line with this revised guidance, we will no longer require students to show proof of vaccination status in order to enter our campuses, nor will we require that students or staff wear masks while in our spaces. This means that we may have a student population on our Denver and NYC campus with mixed vaccination statuses, and a mix of people who may elect to wear masks or not.

Updated safety precautions

Vaccinations

In line with the cited New York City guidance, Flatiron School employees are still required to be vaccinated.

Additionally, there is no change to our protocol for tracking positive cases or exposure for staff and students. We will continue to ask students to share these incidents with us as soon as possible and provide isolation and testing requirements accordingly.

Exemptions may be granted for medical, religious, or other reasons as required by applicable law. Students or guests seeking an accommodation must submit an exemption request to studentrelations@flatironschool.com

For matriculated students, this will be effective for students in cohorts starting on or after April 4, 2022.

For prospective students, this will be effective for events and tours starting on or after April 4, 2022

Masks

Masks are strongly encouraged on campuses located in cities where transmission is designated as substantial or high.

Other safety measures

In addition to the safety measures outlined above, we have taken steps to ensure our campus spaces and offices are well-equipped.

  • Signage: All campuses will display COVID-19 signage throughout the space in compliance with local and federal regulations, as well as signage that communicates the COVID-19 policies outlined above.
  • Safety Supplies: All campuses will have disposable face masks and hand sanitizer available.

FAQ

Why are we changing this policy?

Flatiron School anchors our policy on federal, state, and local guidance. Given the change in the guidance issued for schools and public spaces in New York City and Denver, we are adapting our policy to stay in line with the latest guidance.

What if a student discloses their vaccination status and tells us they’re not vaccinated.

Are they allowed on campus?

Yes, they’re allowed on campus, as we are following the local guidance that no longer requires vaccinations to enter our spaces.

What if an enrolled campus student expresses concern about this policy change? Are there any accommodations we can provide?

The student can reach out to Student Services to discuss their concerns and any options available.

If we learn of a positive case on campus, are we allowed to ask students about their vaccination status to provide the most correct guidance on isolation and testing procedures?

We will not be asking students for their vaccination status. As we’ve done with unknown booster statuses, we will provide overall guidance to students for them to follow based on their circumstances.

Please see our website for a list of campus opening dates and potential programming.
