If there's one way to grab Karlie Kloss' attention, a song about coding to the tune of “Wrecking Ball” may have just done the trick. Ayushi Sangoi, a high school student from Meutchen, NJ, was selected as a Kode with Karlie Scholar after her animated jingle highlighted her desire to help the world through technology.
She answered a few short questions via email about her inspiration for learning code and why it's important for young women.
Tell us who you are in one sentence.
I am a Sammiac (Sammy Keyes fan), Whovian (Doctor Who fan), blogger, poet, percussionist, and recently, also a coder.
How did you find out about the Kode with Karlie Scholarship?
I got an email through TeenVogue talking about Karlie Kloss and her scholarship, and I thought it would be cool to learn.
What inspired you to learn to code?
Coding is like another puzzle, and I like solving puzzles, kind of like Dr. House. Though, I have to say I'm not as anti-social as he is.
Why is it so important for women your age to learn to code?
Coding is like a skeleton key. It opens an endless amount of doors for opportunities to better both your personal and professional lives. You can create websites and apps to publicize your products in a business, or just to write stories to entertain yourself and others.
Who is your biggest role model?
Other than my hard-working parents, it would have to be a fictional book character, Sammy Keyes. I have grown up reading the mysteries about her, and have followed her story up until the end, which was September 9, 2014.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would want to visit Wendelin Van Draanen, the author of Sammy Keyes.
