Announcing the Excella Technology Scholarship

At Flatiron School, we believe in doing our part to create a more diverse and equitable tech workforce, and one of the ways we do this is by partnering with companies who share our values. That’s why we’re extremely excited to once again team up with Excella, an Agile technology firm headquartered in the Washington, D.C. Metro area, to renew the full-tuition Excella Technology Scholarship for 2021. 

Now in its third year, the Excella Technology Scholarship is designed to increase access to transformative education and fast-track the tech talent of tomorrow. To do this, the scholarship covers the full cost of tuition ($15,000) for students who identify as women or underrepresented minorities in tech to study software engineering or data science at Flatiron School’s Washington, D.C. campus. 

For 2021, we’re thrilled to announce Excella will double its impact by offering two full-tuition scholarships for the first time. Eligibility criteria has also been expanded to include students studying data science, currently one of the most sought-after sectors of the tech industry.

“A key component of Excella's Inclusion, Diversity and Equity strategy is to increase professional opportunities within tech for underrepresented groups,” says Mahreen Rashid, Excella’s Executive Vice President of People Services. “Without increased diversity, the tech community cannot reach its full potential. Flatiron School provides a gateway for aspiring tech professionals from all backgrounds to gain skills and experiences they need to have successful careers in tech.  Excella wants to continue to support underrepresented groups by providing access to careers in tech and is excited to partner with Flatiron School in achieving this goal.”

With Excella’s support, the recipients of this scholarship will spend 15 weeks learning the technical skills needed to reinvent themselves as software engineers or data scientists in Washington, D.C. They will receive access to the rigorous, industry-aligned curriculum, supportive learning community and dedicated career coaching that have helped thousands of Flatiron School graduates break into tech and transform their careers.

Applications for the Excella Technology Scholarship will be open Monday, November 2, 2020 through Friday, November 20, 2020 for software engineering or data science programs starting in January 2021.

Eligibility Criteria

Accepting applications Monday, November 2, 2020 through Friday, November 20, 2020.

• Applicants to on-campus software engineering or data science programs in Washington, D.C.

• Residents of D.C., Maryland, or Virginia

• Identify as a woman or an underrepresented minority in tech

• Demonstrated passion for and dedication to continued learning
