Flatiron School, the NYC-founded coding school, will join WeWork’s expanding footprint in Austin to help locals launch and develop careers in technology. Flatiron School’s Austin campus is the latest example of the premier coding school’s growth since becoming part of the WeWork family in October 2017.
As of today, students can apply for a seat in Flatiron School’s 15-week Software Engineering Immersive and 24-week UX/UI Design Immersive, beginning in August 2019. Prospective student and community events will be hosted at WeWork Westview while the brand new campus is being built out at WeWork's SXSW Center, opening in Fall 2019.
“We're thrilled to serve the Austin community by embracing the city's inclusive culture while focusing on educational advancement with Flatiron School's new campus,” said Adam Enbar, Co-Founder and CEO of Flatiron School. “Our students in Austin will benefit from the entrepreneurial spirit that exists in WeWork’s SXSW Center, with the opportunity to collaborate and learn from entrepreneurs and business leaders from the comfort of their own campus.”
As a nationally-recognized tech epicenter, Austin is not only home to legacy tech giants, but also a wealth of global enterprises and startups that are in need of tech talent. From Dell to Texas Instruments, Apple, Amazon, Indeed, Facebook, and Google, Austin has taken a uniquely defining path in becoming one of the state’s – and country’s – most impactful innovation hubs. Additionally, open roles for Software Developers and Computer Engineers experienced a 100 percent increase over the past year in Austin, according to the Austin Chamber of Commerce, January 2019 Report.
“It is with great pride that we join the Austin community to enable a transformative, outcomes-focused coding education,” said Campus Director, Lauren Bauml. “By building access-focused pathways, growing key community partnerships, and leveraging the power of our curriculum and 1:1 career services, we will uniquely create a return on education for Austinites of all backgrounds and walks of life.”
Flatiron School at its core is devoted to promoting an inclusive tech industry by making education more accessible, and is excited to offer income share agreements to Software Engineering Students in Austin. Designed to reduce financial barriers to education, theFlatiron School ISA gives students the opportunity to pay a percentage of their post-program income over a set number of years in exchange for a financial credit toward their tuition. Austin is the sixth Flatiron School campus, after Atlanta, Chicago, D.C, Denver and Seattle to offer ISAs, with more courses and locations to come.
“Austin's deep roots in educational excellence, innovation, and economic growth are reflected in the diverse set of partners that make up our growing tech ecosystem,” says Drew Scheberle, Senior Vice President Education/Talent Development, Austin Chamber of Commerce. “Flatiron School's model of bridging the gap between higher education, workforce readiness, and talent pipeline demands will create value for Austinites and local employers, providing another valuable option that will help make our community more prosperous.”
“When I learned to code, I learned that I could do anything if put my mind to it, and that feels like a superpower,” says Flatiron School Graduate, Kelsey Huse, who currently works as a Technical Support Engineer at Pingboard in Austin. “At Flatiron School, you’re always learning and you always have access to the resources to reach your potential.”
