Future Focus: The future is bright for this London alum

Posted by Flatiron School Students on January 30, 2020

Flatiron School London alumna, Lucy, came to Flatiron School because she sought change: in her job, her day-to-day life, her future—but also in herself and the future of tech. Studying at Flatiron School, she overcame personal and professional challenges to do something great: learn to code, switch career, buy a house, support those she loved. But, it wasn't easy—she got through it with a whole lot of grit and support from her Flatiron School community.

As part of our Future Focus series, we caught up with Lucy to hear what she's looking forward to in the next decade of tech!

How did you first become interested in tech? What brought you to Flatiron School? Where are you today?

I pivoted from healthcare because I wanted to use my passion for learning to continue to help people in the exciting era of digital health! After graduating I actually worked at Flatiron School as a Technical Coaching Assistant and then landed my dream job in health tech.

How has your life changed since graduation from Flatiron School?

I nearly doubled my salary, could afford to support my husband to go back to university, bought a house, made some lifelong friends and changed careers. I proved to myself I could learn a technical skill and continue learning every day.

What excites you most about the next decade in tech?

I'm passionate about health tech and the possibilities for improved health and social care. "The health of the people is the highest law" and integrating healthcare with technology is how we're going to get to a better system.

What do you hope to accomplish in your career in the next 10 years? What does 2030 look like for you?

The job I'm going to be doing in 2 years doesn't exist yet, so 10 years is even more of a mystery! But that's all part of the fun. I know I want to still be learning, be mentoring, be growing, be part of a community that does something awesome.
