Across every community and in every industry, technology is reshaping the way we work and interact with the world around us. Tomorrow’s leaders and innovators will be set apart by their ability not only to engage with technology, but to create it. 

The Cognizant U.S. Foundation NexTech 100 Scholarship provides a pathway for new and rising tech talent to break into one of the nation’s fastest growing industries. Across four Flatiron School campuses – Chicago, Denver, Houston, and Washington, D.C. – this program will provide full scholarships to 100 aspiring trailblazers, empowering them to unlock their potential and shape the future of tech.


The NexTech 100 Scholarship exists to create the opportunity for people with the interest, ambition, and drive to make groundbreaking contributions in tech.

To qualify, applicants must identify as:
  • Women 

  • Underrepresented minorities 

  • LGBTQ+  

  • Veterans 

  • or People with disabilities

Additional preference will also be given to candidates who meet one or more of the following criteria:
  • Individuals who do not hold a 4-year college degree

  • Individuals who have never held a job in the field to which they are applying

  • Individuals with financial need (see the FAQs section for further information about your Area Median Income (AMI))

Frequently asked questions

Is there an application deadline for NexTech 100?

Applicants will be accepted on a rolling basis until the 100 NexTech scholarships have been awarded.

Who is eligible for this scholarship?

This scholarship is open to applicants who identify as: 

  • Women 

  • Underrepresented minorities

  • LGBTQ+  

  • Veterans 

  • People with disabilities 

  • or Veterans

Additional preference will be given to candidates who meet one or more of the following criteria: 

  • Individuals without a four-year college degree

  • Individuals who have not worked in the role for which they are being trained

  • Individuals with household income lower than AMI (Area Median Income) for their geographic area, with preference to those near or below LMI (Low- or Moderate-Income)

Additional notes on eligibility: 

  • As with all On Campus Flatiron School courses, students must be at least 18 years old at the time their cohort begins. 

  • This scholarship is open to new students only and cannot be applied retroactively to those already enrolled in or who have already graduated from a Flatiron School program.

Are all the courses the same across campuses?
  • Our Software Engineering course is available at all four eligible campuses – Chicago, Denver, Houston, and Washington, D.C. 

  • Our Cybersecurity Analytics course is available at our Washington, D.C. campus.

Are there prerequisites to apply to Flatiron School?

While there are no prerequisites to our courses and we welcome beginners, we do recommend exploring our free Coding Bootcamp Prep and Intro to Careers in Design courses. The Flatiron School blog is another great resource to familiarize yourself with careers in tech, learn more about our courses, and hear from our alumni about their experiences.

What’s the application process like?
  • The first step is to fill out a written application. Once submitted, you should hear back from our Admissions team on the next step within 2 business days. 

  • If your application is chosen to move forward, you will be invited to schedule a video call with a member of the Admissions team to get to know you better. 

  • Depending on your chosen course, you may also complete a technical interview based on our free prep courses. You’ll learn more about this step in your video chat with Admissions. 

When will scholarships be awarded?

Full scholarship recipients will be notified of their award beginning in February 2020.

How do I calculate my Area Median Income (AMI)?

The median income for all cities across the country is defined each year by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). To identify the median income for your region, navigate to this resource from the U.S. Census Bureau, enter the city and state where you live, and select your "Median household income" from the  "Select a fact" dropdown menu.
