Non-stop creating for 24 weeks
Our 24-week, innovative course is taught by industry experts and combines flexible online learning in Design Essentials (phase 1) and Process (phase 2) with an immersive on-campus experience for the Studio, Client, and Portfolio phases. Technical training, paired with apprenticeship-style project work and personalized career coaching, creates an experience that’s designed to shape you into a sought-after UX or UI designer.
Broken into five phases, this hybrid learning model lets you study online for the first two phases, then join the third phase in person for team-based design and client projects.
Design Essentials was purposefully created to meet the needs of those coming to the program at any level of design experience, including people with no design background. It introduces the design process quickly, while covering the foundations of UX research, UX design, interaction design, visual design, UI design, and user testing.
Successful completion of Design Essentials is required to move on to the remaining 18 weeks of the program. Students will receive feedback and guidance from instructors at this stage to determine successful completion.

The six-week Process Phase starts immediately after Design Essentials. The main objective of this phase is for designers to experience a more intense, thorough look at their track of choice while becoming proficient in industry-standard software and best practices. In this phase, students have the opportunity to work 1:1 with instructors who are professional designers and creative directors.

This phase of the course is about teamwork, the essential ingredient of being a successful designer. As the first in-person phase, Studio ties in important features of professional practice and team-based design, along with the vital skills of analyzing and synthesizing work. Each of the five weeks of the phase is set up as a sprint, so teams know how much work needs to be done before the next sprint review, and how to budget their time to accomplish it all.

The Client Phase is when students put into practice the hard and soft skills accumulated over the first 17 weeks of the program: designers work with real clients on live products. Design teams publicly discuss their work and process through multiple presentations to their clients. UX teams hand off annotated wireframes for UI designers and UI teams create style guides for front-end developers to take over.
The best part — because each client project is specific for each cohort, students graduate with unique portfolios only they can share with prospective employers.

The Portfolio Phase is the one part of the program that’s explicitly about communication instead of design. As the final phase of our program, it is built specifically to give you the tools and confidence — while reinforcing the unique design process you defined earlier in the program — you need to find a job. It requires a shift for every designer: from learning how to be a designer to learning how to tell the story of your growth as a designer.

With almost two decades of industry experience as a UX Designer for companies Dell, VMWare, and TripIt, Julia is known for her UX mentorship and career guidance. She is a passionate advocate for UX education.
Chelsea lives and breathes design and is eager to share that enthusiasm with others. Her background in graphic design and book arts led her to UX design. In her time at Thoughtworks and as an independent consultant, she worked on service, software, and product design in the aerospace, retail, healthcare, and data management industries.
Thu Do is the product builder for some of the most recognizable companies in NYC and acorss the globe. She utilizes her expertise in design, customer strategy, and product management to deliver highly customizable user experiences. Thu looks forward to furthering her passion by sharing her design knowledge with others through the virtual format.
