Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the application process work?

    1. Apply
Submit a written application. Tell us about yourself and why you’re interested in the opportunity to transform your career. This is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the Admissions Committee so take your time to put your best foot forward. Length is not important, but care and thoughtfulness is.

    2. Admissions Interview
Students who write a strong application will be invited to a first round interview. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little better. We look for strong applicants to demonstrate their passion and determination to complete the program.

    3. Technical Review
Students who perform well in the admissions interview will be invited to a technical review. After writing and submitting a sample coding challenge on the Learn.co platform, you’ll join a live coding session with an instructor to discuss it and see how it can be improved. The technical review is the final step in the application process — you’ll receive an admissions decision within ten business days of your technical review.

  • Am I eligible for this program?

We don’t just admit individual students to our program; we curate a community, cultivating a diversity of thought and experience. Access Labs Initiative is designed for students who demonstrate the grit and passion necessary to successfully launch a new career. Eligibility requirements include:

    • Proficiency in spoken & written English
    • Total annual income of $35,000 or less
    • 21 years of age or older at the start of the program
    • Legally authorized to work in the US permanently at the time of admission to the program

  • If I make over $35,000, can I still apply?

Access Labs is designed to be a catapult of economic mobility for motivated students who otherwise couldn’t afford to enroll. If you are not eligible for Access Labs due to your annual income but would like to learn about programs offered by Flatiron School, you can learn more here. If you have a question about your eligibility for Access Labs, email us at admissions@flatironschool.com.

  • How much does this program cost?

    The program costs $15,000.

  • If there's no upfront tuition, when do I pay for the course?

“Access Labs students will have a grace period before they must begin tuition repayment. During this time, students are expected to comply with the Career Services Commitment.

There are three tuition repayment scenarios:

    1. Tuition repayment begins upon the start of a Qualifying Job Offer (see terms).
    2. If the full Career Services Commitment is completed and a Qualifying Job Offer is not received by the student within 6 months, the tuition balance will be waived.
    3. If a student breaches the Career Services Commitment at any point within 6 months of graduation, the tuition repayment schedule will begin immediately.

  • After I get a job, do I have to pay the $15,000 all at once?

No, after you’ve been admitted and enroll you’ll pay no upfront tuition. Tuition becomes due once you get a job/start earning income. Once you have a job, pay 10% of your income in monthly installments until the full $15,000 tuition is paid. If you become unemployed or stop earning, tuition payments pause that month.

  • What if I don't receive a job offer? Do I still have to pay?

If you fully abide by the guidelines of our Career Services Commitment and do not receive a Qualifying Job Offer within six month of graduation from the program, then your tuition payment will be waived.

  • Do international students qualify for this program?

International students qualify for this program. However, you must be legally authorized to work in the US permanently at the time of admission to the program in order to be eligible for admission to Access Labs.
