At Flatiron School, every new campus is an opportunity to entwine two inclusive communities — the existing tech community and our community — to create something special. With our Sydney campus, we’re providing students the skills and community they need to start their careers as software engineers or UX/UI designers.
A booming tech economy
Australia is a rapidly growing tech center, according to the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Australia’s Digital Pulse 2019 report. The demand for technology workers is projected to grow by 100,000 between 2018 and 2024, according to the report. From 2011 to 2018, Australia’s tech force has seen an average growth rate of 2.5% — compared to 1.7% average growth for the overall Australian labour market — per the report. With current growth and future demand, there’s a skills shortage that needs to be satisfied at a speed that traditional degree programs can’t match.
While more Australians are enrolling in IT degree programs, the tech industry is facing a talent shortage. One way to meet current and future demand is by easing the barrier of entry to education. Flatiron School, and other education alternatives to a traditional university, can develop a curriculum that current workplaces demand. If a new programming language, for example, becomes a popular job requirement, Flatiron School can adapt to market concerns.
Flatiron School can help you start your career as a software engineer or as a UX/UI designer in months compared to years. Additionally, Flatiron School helps you find a job by pairing you with a dedicated Career Coach. You’ll work 1:1 with your coach to find a job that’s right for you.
A community of lifelong learners
Change doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens through collaboration. At Flatiron School, we foster a great inclusive community between our students, coaches, Career Services, partner network, and alumni that’s more akin to a family because we believe it’s the best way to learn the skills you need to become a software engineer or a UX/UI designer. If you need help in any capacity, someone at Flatiron School will be there to help you. Our curriculum is designed with that in mind. You’ll work on projects with your peers and your instructors are always around to answer your questions.
Sydney already offers a robust tech community with regular Meetups and larger tech conferences such as Spark Festival and Web Directions. Kristi Riordan, Flatiron School’s Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director, will be speaking at both at both of these events, sharing valuable insight, personal experience and thought leadership..
We’re also excited to contribute to Sydney’s tech community with our own Meetup group. Whether you want to learn more about Flatiron School, experience a hands-on introduction to a new skill, or listen to some great panels, there’s an event for you. We hope to see you there!
